Brion Gysin was the legendary artist who inspired and mentored writer William Burroughs. This site serves several purposes: online presence, blog, social network, image gallery, and archive.
Built on Wordpress, an international team is able to make easy updates to news and features.
The site now receives thousands of hits a week, and the statistics indicate that people spend an average of 16 minutes exploring the various pages.
The site may be more impressive as an example of information design than aesthetics; there has never been a Brion Gysin site before, and the different potential audiences it needed to serve required it both educate the uninitiated while also facilitating a blog and community of 'aficionados'.
Indeed, the site preserves a deliberately non-partisan aesthetic; as with any artist, and perhaps more so than most, Brion Gysin attracts multiple strongly opinionated factions of response, reflecting the many ways of viewing Gysin and his art. The site therefore aims for the enlivening neutrality of an exhibition, rather than the explicit messaging mode of such more overtly promotional pieces as album covers or posters.
